This portfolio piece allows me to design a package idea for a company that uses unethical or unhealthy packaging for projects. I decided to create a healthier package for Pringles due to the packaging used is unhealthy for the environment, as the cylinder is made out of different materials that can cross contaminate and is thick to survive destruction. This project allowed me to further my interest in branding as a designer, as well as made me understand the industry a bit more.
There are many packages that are unhealthy for the environment due to the fact that they are considered hard to recycle. The task is to create a environmentally-friendly package for a brand, then print and display how it would look. The wireframes and design must be created and measured by the designer, then printed and displayed connected to one another. It must also contain the logo, ingredients, and the nutrition list.
The brand I chose was Pringles, due to the fact that while researching, Pringles containers are un-recycable due to the amount of plastic, metal, and paper combined into one package. I wanted to create a package that is easily accessible and easily able to be recycled. One problem is making the package big enough to fit the contents inside. As well, another problem is making the product easily recognizable to the viewer as an eye-catcher.
The final package depicts a box with the inside as a solid, non-plastic tray that can be easily slide in and out for the consumer. The tray has a divider at the bottom to separate the crisps into bundles, as it were snack morsels. The exterior box is a cardboard-like box with the information of the crisp. Depending on the flavor, the box must represent a different color every time, with the flavor and information on there.
